My work explores the interface between relative perception, unbound interconnection and the wake of humanity’s tragic and layered trajectory.
Just as forms in nature are carved by inexorable change, my paintings offer unique images which are shaped by a process of relentless improvisation. Abstract tapestries are created with rhythms of layered marks probing for resolution, often figuratively evocative, that speak of private stories and public spaces.
As I begin, I have no predetermined conceptual map or references, but instead trust in a timeless knowing that moves through me to express itself in its own perfection. Designed as active topographies for the imagination, my paintings entice the viewer into a journey of communal adventure that connects through metaphor, marking this moment's significance within the pervasive continuum.
A repeating theme in my work is humanities movement, the march of life’s cycle and evolution of our species. Pablo Neruda, an important influence in my artistic development beautifully summarized our alignment in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech when he said, “All paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are.” This is at my artistic core. I love the tension of opposites where friction illuminates potential, a kind of visual oxymora. It is in this place where the synthesis of representation and abstraction, flatness and depth, neutrality and saturation coalesce into dynamic narratives and visual discoveries.
Shed of artifice and untethered by fashion, in my process, unifying fields of form and content are laid bare, providing the viewer with unique opportunities for self discovery. Here dissonance is embraced becoming symbolic of our collective experience. In this way, my work is understood and facilitated as an articulation of the greater mystery of which we are never separate. PK
